NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) -

Blake Dean entered his first year as head coach with little expectations. That's what happens when you only win 14 games last year. With 13 wins in 16 games that outlook has changed, and the head coach now hopes to pull an upset at a familiar place tonight.

Blake Dean finished as an All-American at LSU, and won a 2009 national title ring. He's No. 2 in hits and RBI in school history, no doubt one of the biggest names in the storied program. Which makes returns to Baton Rouge awkward when heading to the visiting dugout.

"When I walk in there, I still feel like that's where I belong. I still feel a part of that place. It's also a little bit different. I have to admit, I had a lot of memories there. I played two years in the "old box", two years in the current one. It's always been my home, where I made a name for myself, and came into my own," said UNO Head Coach Blake Dean.

Dean spent four years playing for Paul Mainieri, another one as his assistant coach. Which should give him a little advantage tonight, right?

"I always mess with him, I messed with him two years ago. I said don't hit and run, don't bunt, I know your signals, I'll pitch out, I'll pick off. He said you can't do that!? Obviously I would never do that. I know most of his tendencies-type stuff. That's where I learned my philosophies from watching him, seeing how he does things. We were successful, so why wouldn't I pay attention to that," said Dean.

Dean was on Mainieri's only national title team, and they maintain a close relationship. Playing UNO just got a little more bittersweet for the head coach of LSU.

"Of course I played at UNO so I have a great affection for it, and of course Blake Dean one of the greatest players we've ever had here. He's done a tremendous job. Started off in a really great way. Playing with a lot of spirit and a lot of confidence. We're going to have our hands full, they can really swing the bat," said LSU Head Coach Paul Mainieri.

UNO enters this contest with a better record 13-3, to LSU's 12-3. The Tigers though, are ranked #7 in the country.

Marshon Lattimore Lattimore’s performance was one of the better things to come out of joint practices with the Chargers. He looked healthy and played aggressive. He mostly ran with the second team. I’ll be watching to see how he responds in his first game experience. Ryan Ramczyk Ditto for Ramczyk. Even with an injury that forced him to miss the preseason opener, he is the clear cut first option at left tackle. That wasn’t the case before camp began, which shows...
