(WVUE) -

The focus of Wednesday night's meeting between LSU and UNO was the return of Tigers standout slugger Blake Dean as the Privateers' head coach but the homecoming was spoiled by Paul Mainieri's squad who turned in a steady performance in a 9-4 victory.

Dean's younger brother, Dakota, got the party started in the top of the first inning with an opposite field home run drive to put the visitors up 1-0 in his return to the school where he played as a freshman.

The game was tied 2-2 until the 5th inning when LSU scored three runs and followed that up with another three in the 6th to make it 8-2 and they never looked back. The Tigers used ten pitchers on the night, with none logging more than 1.0 innings pitched. Austin Bain got his second win of the season.

LSU will stay home for a weekend visit from Alabama to start SEC play while UNO will hit the road to Stephen F. Austin for their second Southland Conference matchup.
