NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -

Catholic Charities Archdiocese of New Orleans is seeking adult volunteers to assist with the removal of debris, trash, and mud/sand from flooded homes in St. Tammany and Washington Parishes.  Volunteer recovery efforts will begin on Saturday, March 19 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., departing from Annunciation Catholic Church, located at 5517 Avenue B in Bogalusa.

Adults who are interested in volunteer opportunities should contact Shannon Murphy at 504-914-0971 in advance to sign up to participate.

"Catholic Charities continues to assess the needs of the families who have been affected by the devastating flooding on the North Shore," said Sr. Marjorie Hebert, President and CEO of Catholic Charities. "Removing debris is an important first step as we identify the meaningful ways Catholic Charities can provide recovery assistance – from coordinating volunteer working groups and distributing supplies, to counseling and pastoral care."

Volunteers are encouraged to wear old clothes and closed toe shoes such as boots or sneakers, and to bring items such as gloves or other protective gear. Gloves and other cleaning tools and supplies will be provided.

To sign up to volunteer on Saturday, March 19 or to learn about future volunteer opportunities, contact Shannon Murphy at 504-914-0971.
