Mainieri gets the best of his pupil Dean

BATON ROUGE, LA (WVUE) -

In the first of many matchups between head coaches Paul Mainieri and Blake Dean, round 1 goes to the teacher with a 9-4 victory for LSU.

The Tigers were paced by Antoine Duplantis and Jordan Romero's two RBI. Bryce Jordan also hit a solo home run for LSU.

"Coach Mainieri is my guy, he really is. He's my mentor, the guy I looked up to, the guy I believe in, I still call him for advice. Him and Coach Maestri helped me get this spot here. It's always pleasure, I got to come out to come out and talk to him early today. I enjoy it, he's a great guy, and he'll continue to be my biggest asset," said UNO Head Coach Blake Dean.

"Going up against Blake, or anyone of my former players, or assistant coaches, it's always a difficult thing to me. Because I'm so impassioned in what they're doing, I want them to do well. I want them to win every game they play. Unfortunately when we play then I have to feel differently, " said LSU Head Coach Paul Mainieri.

Mainieri also revealed in post game that the weekend rotation. We'll be changed up. Friday night Alex Lange will now go, and Jared Poche moves to Saturday's .
