Houma mom accused of beating son with a broom handle

A Houma mother has been arrested, accused of beating her son with a broom handle.

Audrial Slocum, 26, has been booked with cruelty to a juvenile after an investigation that began with the Department of Child Services. The agency received a child abuse complaint at a home in the 100 block of Acklen Street. The Houma Police department was called to investigate, and when officers arrived on the scene, they reportedly saw suspicious injuries on the child, including bruising to both sides of the young boy's face and arms.

Deputies later interviewed the mother and determined that the injuries were caused by her beating him with a broom handle. Slocum was taken to the Terrebonne Parish Criminal Justice Complex. Detectives have not released the age of the child who was injured, only saying that he was younger than 10.
