Plastic gun draws police response to Uptown primary school

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) -

KIPP Believe Primary School was partially evacuated after a third grade student brought in, what turned out to be, a plastic toy gun.

According to NOPD, officers received a call saying a student had a gun at KIPP Believe Primary School around 12:36 p.m. Thursday afternoon. School officials evacuated the third floor of the building, bringing all students and staff to lower floors for safety.

When NOPD officers arrived on the scene, they discovered that the gun found was a plastic gun. The third grade student who brought in the gun was detained by authorities, but will not be charged with any crimes.

No one was injured during the incident.
