NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -

The Southern University Board of Supervisors named John K. Pierre as chancellor of the Southern University Law Center.

Pierre was chosen from four finalists after serving as interim SULC chancellor since July of 2015.

Pierre joined the faculty of SULC in 1990. In addition to serving in vice chancellor positions he has taught commercial law, tax law, contracts and property.

In a news release announcing the selection, Pierre said he's truly honored and said "I think of my mother and my father on a day like this and I am grateful they gave me the spirit I have to serve. I will work hard to propel the SU Law Center to be the institution you want it to be."

Pierre holds a bachelor's degree in accounting from Southern University, a master's degree in tax accounting from Texas Tech University and a juris doctor degree from Southern Methodist University, Dedman School of Law.
