NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -

A man, applying for a job at a New Orleans East restaurant, stops a would-be robber from escaping. The incident occurred Saturday, just after 1 p.m. at the Popeye's located in the 8700 block of Chef Menteur Highway.

Police say that the 18-year-old man was interviewing with the restaurant's manager when a customer, later identified as 50-year-old Pablo Ciscart, grabbed money from a register while the cashier was retrieving his change. The restaurant's assistant manager then grabbed Ciscart's arm. Ciscart was able to get away and was heading towards the door, which was being blocked by the manager. As Ciscart tried to push her out of the way, the applicant grabbed Ciscart in a reverse bear hug, according to police.

Ciscart then gave up and threw the cash on the ground. The applicant and the manager held Ciscart down until police arrived.

Police interviewed Ciscart who admitted to the robbery. Investigators also learned that Ciscart has a warrant out of St. Bernard Parish for a similar crime. He was booked in Orleans Parish Jail for simple robbery and for a fugitive attachment.
