Lightning strike kills woman at music festival

A lightning strike killed a woman at the T-Bois Blues Festival and injured two others Friday night.

Jackie Stavis, 28, died at a local hospital last night after lightning struck the tent she and two other woman were seeking shelter in during a period of severe weather according to Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre. All three women are from New Orleans.

Deputies were called out to the scene shortly after 10 p.m. on March 18 after receiving a report that three people were injured by a lightning strike at the T-Bois Blues Festival grounds. EMTs transported all three women to the hospital, where Stavis was pronounced dead the next day.

The other two women, ages 30 and 24, were treated for injuries commonly associated with electric shock.

A large Labrador was also killed by the lightning strike.
