NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) -

Pelicans Head Coach Alvin Gentry announced this afternoon that NBA All-Star forward Anthony Davis will be shut down for the rest of the season. A decision that factors in the 23-year-old’s left knee and shoulder injuries.

“We’re going to shut him down. He’s done for the year,” Gentry told the Pelicans website. “It’s unfortunate, but he’s got an issue with his shoulder that he’s played with the whole season. It’s amazing when people talk about him being soft or whatever; they don’t understand that he’s played through a situation with his shoulder the entire season.”

His latest injury happened this past Friday night when he banged knees with the Trailblazers C.J. McCollum while setting a screen. He missed the second half of the contest with injury.

Davis already missed seven games this season due to injury before the Clippers game tonight. There's 14 games left in the season for the Pels.

Davis is averaging 24.3 points, 10.3 rebounds and 2.0 blocks per game for the Pelicans.
