Not only is Anthony Davis shut down for the rest of the Pelicans’ season, but the two-time NBA All-Star dropped the bombshell that he’s played with a torn labrum since 2013.

However, it’s his left knee injury that caused him to cut the season short and have surgery. To be efficient, the Pelicans staff and Davis decided to address the shoulder this off-season as well.

“As a player, you don’t want to have chronic pains,” says Davis. “I want to play double digit years in the league, not just seven years or eight years. “

Knowing now that Davis played through considerable pain with a significant injury the last few years, it casts a different light on his “fragile” image.

“That’s why I get really upset when people say he’s a little bit soft or this and that,” says Head Coach Alvin Gentry. “For him he would do anything that he had to, to try to win games. He would do anything that he possibly could to help us if we were in a playoff situation right now. To me, that’s all you would really ask of any player, especially your franchise player, who’s the best player on the team.”

Davis says he doesn’t have an exact timetable on his return from rehabilitation. He says he’s looking forward to being rid of these ailments for good and returning 100 percent next season.
