LAFOURCHE PARISH, LA (WVUE) -

The Lafourche Parish sheriff and president issued a warning Tuesday to residents about misleading solicitation involving the Lafourche Parish Animal Shelter.

Sheriff Craig Webre said several residents have reported receiving phone calls and mail solicitations where the caller or sender asked for funding, suggesting the money will help fund the Lafourche Parish Animal Shelter.

Parish President Jimmy Cantrelle said the Lafourche Parish Animal Shelter is operated and maintained by Lafourche Parish government through funding provided in the annual budget. The Lafourche Parish government does not solicit any additional funding from residents by phone or otherwise.

Webre said anyone who receives a phone call or mailer asking for money on behalf of the Lafourche Parish Animal Shelter should consider it a scam and report it to the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office at (985) 448-2111.
