NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) -

Supporters who want to keep confederate era monuments standing in New Orleans won a small victory Friday in court.  The Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled the city's confederate-era monuments must not be moved while an appeal is heard on their fate.

In December, the city of New Orleans ruled the monuments a public nuisance and ordered them removed.  They include the Jefferson Davis, General PGT Beauregard, General Robert E Lee and the Battle of Liberty monuments.

Today's ruling in favor of the Monumental Task Committee and Louisiana Landmark Society means the monuments can stay in place until all appeals are exhausted.
