BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

With the debate over the Louisiana budget for this year in the rear-view mirror, all eyes are now on the $750 million shortfall for next year.

State agencies are set to begin presenting what that deficit could mean for them. To fix the budget for next year, many agencies are facing steep cuts.

The House Appropriations Committee will hear testimony from several state agencies Monday about what those cuts could mean for them.

The Department of Education, which will be presenting Monday, will likely see cuts in the 30 percent range. The Department of Public Safety and Corrections, which is scheduled to present as well, will see cuts in the 10 percent range.

Commissioner of Administration Jay Dardenne addressed the committee last week to preview the budget.

"They're going to be painful in many respects still," Dardenne said. "They're not absolutely catastrophic, shut down government level, like they would have been 63 percent for some agencies. They're still going to dramatic. They're going to have an adverse impact on delivery of services throughout the state."

There isn’t a specific budget for next year yet. The Edwards administration is still working on a specific proposal.

One could be announced as early as next week.
