A Thibodaux man was arrested Sunday after he allegedly beat up his ex-girlfriend, took her car and then dropped off her two young children alone in an empty home, according to police.

Antoine Westley, 21, faces charges that include carjacking, domestic abuse battery with child endangerment, child desertion and criminal mischief.

On Saturday at approximately 12:45 p.m., police said Westley, his ex-girlfriend, his current girlfriend and five prepubescent juveniles were riding in a 2005 Toyota Camry belonging to the victim’s sister in the 200 Block of East Bayou Road.

Westley and the victim began arguing, and Westley struck the victim, who was driving, multiple times, according to police. The victim was able to pull off the road and stop in front of a restaurant. Westley then pulled the victim out of the car by her hair and body slammed her to the ground. Police said he then took the victim’s phone, got into the car and left the scene with his girlfriend and all five juveniles.

Witnesses contacted police, and while they were investigating, officers learned that Westley had left the car and the victim’s two children at the victim’s sister’s home while no one was there, leaving the juveniles unattended.

On Sunday at approximately 12:18 p.m., police found Westley on St. Charles Street after receiving a tip.

He was arrested and taken to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center, where he remains in lieu of a $7,700 bond.
