NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) -

A kitchen fire grew into a three alarm blaze at a French Quarter restaurant Wednesday morning.

According to NOFD, fire fighters responded to the report of a fire at Fiorella's Restaurant in the 1100 block of Decatur Street just after 9 a.m. on Wednesday morning.

Fiorella's is housed in a a three-story mixed-occupancy building with an occupied residential unit on the second floor. The first fire fighters on the scene reported heavy, black smoke billowing from every level of the building and immediately struck a second alarm.

A third alarm was then struck as a precaution to ensure no residents or workers were trapped inside the building and to prevent the fire from spreading to other adjacent buildings, according to NOFD,

The fire was contained by 10:32 a.m.

No one was injured in the fire and the flames did not spread, but adjacent buildings did take smoke damage.

After interviewing the managers of Fiorella’s, it was determined that the fire began in the kitchen where there were employees cooking and prepping for the day when the fire started.

The restaurant did have a hood system, but it malfunctioned.

Twenty-five NOFD units, carrying seventy-five Fire Operations personnel, responded to the fire.
