COVINGTON, LA (WVUE) -

The St. Tammany Parish coroner wants to alert parents to the dangers of sharing their beds with infants.

Dr. Charles Preston said there have been five co-sleeping deaths in the past 15 months where parents suffocated or crushed children while sharing a bed.

"These are tragedies that can be easily prevented.   Not only as a physician but as a father I want to spread this advice:  Infants should never share a bed with an adult," Preston said.

The coroner's office released a public service announcement Thursday showing the potential tragic effects of sharing a bed with a baby. Officials call it an easily preventable danger.
