NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -

Complaints about raw sewage backing up in Franklinton bathtubs and yards prompt the state's Department of Environmental Quality to get involved. DEQ workers say they will investigate the matter.

Some Franklinton residents say recent rains amplified their raw sewage problems. "At one point, we were going to Winn Dixie to use the restroom because we couldn't flush the toilet," said Franklinton resident Patsy Williams.

Franklinton Mayor Wayne Fleming acknowledges the situation. He says he's applied for a $5.7 million grant to build a new sewer lift station and upgrade pipes.
