HAMMOND, LA (WVUE) -

Nicholls State ended Southeastern Louisiana's 14-game win streak on Friday night. On Saturday and Sunday SLU bats responded, scoring 29 runs in total to take the series.

"We made seven errors, hit into a triple play, and we're still only one run down in the last inning," said Lion Head Baseball Coach Matt Riser. "One ball falls this way or that way we know we get the win. It's one of those deals where we know everything is still right. We knew the seven errors wasn't characteristic of us. We had to go back out there and execute offensively and defensively. The guys have shown resiliency all year long. We had some tough losses earlier in the year, I thought that was tough loss on Friday night. Obviously we responded well in those two games."

SLU hit three home runs in Sunday's contest, including a grand slam by Ponchatoula native Ryan Byers.

"Yeah we lost the streak, but we wanted to come out with a little bit of vengeance, because it was Nicholls an in-state opponent," Byers said. "It was a tough one on Friday, but we decided to come out and just tack it on."

The Lions hit the road Tuesday night for a big non-conference game with Tulane. The Lions won the first matchup 13-4.
