Carnival Cruise lines launches new ship to sail from New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) -

This is a big day for the New Orleans tourism industry as Carnival announces a new cruise ship that will offer cruises to Mexico and parts of the Caribbean.

The new ship is the Carnival Triumph.  This ship is replacing the Carnival Elation and has been updated to accommodate four and five day cruises.

Carlos Torres de Navarra, spokesperson with Carnival Cruise line, says the Triumph is different from other ships in the line that sail out of New Orleans.

The ship is larger, carrying up to 2,800 passengers. It also features  updated dining and bar facilities.

Carnival cruise line plays a big role in the history of New Orleans tourism.
