Mentor program encourages high school students in architecture, construction, engineering fields

(WVUE) -

Students participating in the ACE Mentor Program are getting ready for graduation later this month.

ACE stands for Architecture, Construction, and Engineering, and the program helps guide high school students to pursue careers in design and construction.

Students work on a real-world project while in the program, like at De La Salle High School, where they're putting a condemned building back to use.

"We have, it's not really an abandoned building, but a building in the back that's just for storage,” explains junior Raekwon Thomas. “We decided that for our project we would demo the building and re-build it up to two floors. It's gonna be a multi-purpose room."

If you're a professional in architecture, construction or engineering and would like to become a mentor or make a donation to the ACE Mentor Program New Orleans please contact Frances Roemer at frances@fhmyers.com.
