(WVUE) - Aaron Nola picked up in 2016 where left off in 2015, delivering seven innings in his first start of the season for the Phillies and only allowing one run. His bullpen could not seal the victory, however, as the Reds walked off with a 3-2 victory, thanks to Scott Schebler's 2-RBI single in the bottom of the ninth.
The former LSU right-handed pitcher threw eight strikeouts against the Cincinnati Reds after allowing a first inning home run to Eugenio Suarez, one of just four hits he gave up. His ERA now registers at 1.29.
The Phillies pitched Nola Wednesday, instead of opening day, so that he can take the mound for the team's home opener, April 11th.
