BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

With the state budget still facing a $750 million shortfall, the question is will legislators have to come back for another special session.

On Thursday, Governor John Bel Edwards said, yet again, that it is likely. However, he is waiting to make any formal announcement until he feels confident that they will close the budget gap.

Earlier in the week, another credit rating agency, Fitch, downgraded the state's rating in reaction to the state's credit woes. Moody's was the first to downgrade the state's credit in February.

"It was hardly an endorsement of the way in which the state handled its business during the session, we simply have to do better. And doing better I believe means a second special session," Edwards said.

There has been talk of maybe waiting until the fall for a second special session. The governor indicated that is not the best option, saying he wants to hold the session sooner rather than later in order to keep things like private-public hospitals open.
