ST. CHARLES PARISH, LA (WVUE) - Louisiana State Police said a woman was killed in an early Saturday morning wreck.
Carolyn Bennett, 53, was struck and killed by a car while walking on LA 633 Saturday morning.
According to State Police, Bennett and 49-year-old Early Simmons were walking southbound on LA 633 near the intersection of US 90 when a 2013 Dodge Challenger driven by 22-year-old Dwayne Williams approached.
Police say Williams slowed down when he saw the pedestrians, but Bennett turned in front of the car and was hit. She was then taken to the hospital where she later died.
Investigators do not believe that impairment and speed are factors in the crash.
LSP said the majority of pedestrian fatalities, occur at night. Pedestrians are encouraged to walk facing traffic, wear light color clothing, wear reflective materials, and carry a flashlight at night. Additional pedestrian safety can be by clicking here.
