NOPD officers arrested a man who allegedly reported his car stolen after crashing it into a house the night before.

According to NOPD, Joe Gray Jr. filed a police report saying someone stole his car overnight after he parked it in Algiers. However, when police followed up on his reporter, they say his statement was far from the truth.

According to NOPD, officers attempted to stop Gray's car, a 2002 Chevy Impala, around 1:44 a.m. the night before. Police say the car's driver refused to pull over and crashed into a house in the 800 block of Odeon Street. The driver then fled the area on foot.

Gray filed a police report the next day saying that his car was stolen, but through investigating that report detectives learned that Gray was the driver that night. Gray is now in police custody and has been charged with First Degree Injuring Public Records, Hit and Run Driving and Reckless Operation of a Motor Vehicle.
