NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - A New Orleans man faces 22 years in prison for selling heroin, including selling while he was jailed at Orleans Parish Prison, according to U.S. Attorney Kenneth Polite.
Lionel Thomas, 30, conspired with others buy and distribute one kilogram or more of the drug, according to court records, and he admitted to using the jail phone to further his activities. All jail house phone call are recorded.
Law enforcement officers seized more than $60,000 from Thomas during various stops and searches in the fall of 2013.
Polite praised the work of the special agents of the DEA and the FBI, with assistance from Louisiana State Police and the New Orleans Police Department in the investigation.
Thomas' sentence will be followed by 10 years of supervised release.
