BATON ROUGE, LA (WVUE) - They nearly blew it. LSU, ranked ninth in the country, nearly ruined a good night of baseball at Alex Box Stadium.
Against Grambling St., the Tigers dominated early and struggled late, putting 12 runs on the board in the game's first four innings. Their relief pitching would surrender nine runs over the final three innings. LSU won 14-11 but, how they won won't sit well with Head Coach Paul Mainieri.
Right-handed pitcher Austin Bain (3-0) earned the win for the Tigers after going two innings, allowing no runs and no hits with six strikeouts in relief.
LSU used seven pitchers who collected 14 strikeouts and allowed 11 runs on 11 hits.
LSU improves to 22-11 on the year, and Grambling falls to 15-17. The Tigers get back into SEC play this weekend when they host Missouri beginning Friday night.
