NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -

It doesn't look like public defenders will get more money anytime soon.

According to our partners at Nola.com|The Times-Picayune, state lawmakers have no plans to increase funding for the Public Defenders Board. Funding for the board, which oversees local public defenders offices, remains level in Gov. John Bel Edwards' budget proposal.

A judge ordered the release of seven New Orleans inmates April 8 because they waited for months without legal representation. The public defenders office insists it does not have the necessary manpower to handle its workload.
