LAFAYETTE, LA (WVUE) - Nicholls jumped out to an early 3-0 lead over 24th-ranked UL-Lafayette but the Cajuns rallied for a home win, 4-3.
Joey Morales and Lakeshore High product Kyle Knauth combined to bring three runs home in the third inning while starting pitcher Mike Hanchar threw three scoreless innings. ULL chipped away at the visitors' lead with one run in the fourth inning but it wasn't until the seventh inning when Brian Mills brought home the go-ahead run with a two-run double on the heels of a Steven Sensely RBI single.
The Cajuns held on to the lead in the eighth and ninth frame to improve to 25-12 on the year while Nicholls falls to 16-22. The Colonels are off to Nebraska for a weekend series while UL-Lafayette is back in action Wednesday night against McNeese St.
