NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -

Some people think a new ordinance will promote gun safety in New Orleans.

Mayor Mitch Landrieu will join council members Jason Williams and James Gray April 22 to announce the proposed ordinance. They'll talk about their proposal at Bunny Friend Playground.

In November of 2016, 17 people suffered gunshot woulds at the playground. Investigators say a crowd of hundreds of people gathered at the playground for a music video shoot. They think two groups started shooting at each other during the gathering. Ten men have been named in an indictment in connection with the incident.

According to our partners at Nola.com|The Times-Picayune, sources familiar with the proposed ordinance say it would require private gun owners to call the police in the event their firearms are stolen or lost, within 48 hours of discovery.
