SLIDELL, LA (WVUE) -

Louisiana State Police are investigating a head-on crash that resulted in the death of a Slidell man. The incident occurred Sunday, just before 6 a.m. on North Military Road near the intersection of Crawford Landing Road in Slidell. The deceased man has been identified as 40-year-old John C. Powe.

According to police, Powe was driving his car northbound on Military Rd. when for unknown reasons, he crossed the center line and hit a southbound car, driven by 48-year-old Pinky S. Mirpuri of Slidell, head-on.

Police say that Powe was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash. He was brought to Ochsner Medical Center - North Shore where he was pronounced dead, shortly after arrival.

Mirpuri and his front-seat passenger, identified as 49-year-old Sujit Kishu Mirpuri, were both wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash, police say. Both were transported to Lakeview Regional Medical Center to receive treatment for non-life threatening injuries.

Blood samples from both drivers were obtained and will be analyzed at the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab.
