Man dashes out of stores with stolen designer purses

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - Police are searching for a man who grabbed designer purses from at least two stores and ran out without paying for them. The suspect has been identified as 39-year-old Kiran Franklin.

Police say on three separate occasions, Franklin went into the TJ Maxx and Ross Dress for Less stores and removed expensive purses from the racks. He then reportedly ran out of the door before anyone could stop him. The robberies happened in Algiers in the 3000 block of Holiday Drive.

These crimes are very similar to several incidents that happened in the past month or so in Metairie.  In those cases, surveillance video showed a man stealing Michael Kors bags from a TJ Maxx store on at least four occasions. In that case, the total cost of the purses amounts to $1,600.  It's not known if the Algiers robberies are related to those reported in Metairie.

If you have any information on any of these stolen purse cases, you're asked to call Crimestoppers at 822-1111 or toll-free 1-877-903-STOP.  You could receive a cash reward of up to $2,500 for the information leading to an arrest.
