State police identify driver in triple fatality crash in Terrebonne Parish

TERREBONNE PARISH, LA (WVUE) - Troopers with Troop C have identified the driver of the 1995 Honda Civic involved in the three vehicle fatality crash on April 20, 2016. Through investigative efforts, Troopers identified Rafael Fandino as the driver of the Civic that caused the crash. Speed and alcohol consumption are suspected as factors in the crash, but toxicology tests are still pending.
The multiple fatality crash happened on LA 182 near Coteau Road.  The crash involved three vehicles and resulted in fatal injuries for Fandino and two passengers.

Troopers' investigation revealed that the crash occurred as the 1995 Honda Civic was being driven westbound on LA 182 near Lucky's Casino.  It was occupied by 29 year old Christopher Rately of Abita Springs, LA, 22 year old Stephen Buck of Folsom, LA, and 31 year old Rafael Fandino of Metairie, LA.

For unknown reasons, the Civic crossed the centerline and struck an eastbound 2016 Ford F-150, driven by 41 year old Jessie Albritton of Houma, LA.  After striking the F-150, the Honda Civic continued westbound in the eastbound lane and impacted a 2012 Freightliner 18 Wheeler being driven by 42 year old Maurice James of West Memphis, AR.

The preliminary investigation indicates that all three occupants of the Honda Civic were unrestrained at the time of the crash.  The occupants were ejected from the vehicle and were pronounced deceased at the scene by the Terrebonne Parish Coroner's Office. Seat belts were worn by Albritton and James and they sustained minor injuries.
