Woman extricated from car after crashing into sushi restaurant

COVINGTON, LA (WVUE) - Louisiana State Police is investigating what caused a woman to crash into the side of a sushi restaurant in Covington Wednesday morning.  Christopher Hynes with St. Tammany Fire District #12 says the driver, an unidentified elderly woman was driving in the 1600 block of Highway 90 when she flipped her car, smashing into the TOGOSHUSHI Restaurant.

The woman had to be extricated from the car and taken to the hospital.  There is no word on her condition, but Hynes said it appeared that the woman would be okay. He said the woman's injuries were less than what you'd expect from an accident like this.

A spokesman for the sushi restaurant says the accident happened around 9 am before the restaurant was open for business.  No one was inside at the time, and there were no other injuries reported.  Half of the restaurant's patio was destroyed, but the inside of the building wasn't damaged, The restaurant is open for business today.

The accident is being investigated by State Police, which is expected to have more information later today.  Stay tuned to fox8live.com for developments on this story.
