The future of TOPS scholarships remain up in the air.

Recently, the Head of State Financial Aid urged students and parents to start thinking of other ways of paying for college. That is because state legislatures are still trying to figure out how to solve Louisiana’s budget issues.

“There’s a lot of hypocricy,” says State Treasurer John Kennedy. “TOPS has gotten too expensive. You know why? Because they raised tuition. Tops pays for tuition. So, when they raised tuition, the cost of TOPS went up.”

The Executive Director of Student Aid says student should strive for the best grades possible in order to increase their chances of receiving federal aid.
