NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) -

The defense team for former North Shore District Attorney Walter Reed continues to call witnesses at his trial Thursday.

A short time ago an attorney Reed hired to be his number two in the DA's office took the stand.

Houston "Hammy" Gascon testified about how the DA's office worked.

Gascon testified about a 1994 letter about Reed representing St. Tammany Hospital.

Prosecutors accuse Reed of illegally taking money from the hospital for services that were intended for the DA's office.

Reed is also accused of spending more than $100,000 from his campaign fund for personal expenses.

Earlier in the day, Reed's ex-wife underwent cross examination after spending hours testifying on Wednesday.

Bart Pepperman also testified about helping to plan events Reed would hold for his political supporters and sometimes didn't charge attendees for events.
