CHALMETTE, LA (WVUE) - U.S. Senator David Vitter announced Friday that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency will be awarding $22,485,358 in grants to fund the construction of a new school in St. Bernard Parish and to aid in hurricane relief and preparedness.
The St. Bernard Parish School Board will be receiving $16,733,667 in grants for the construction of the Meraux Elementary School in a new location in Chalmette, La. The work is required as a result of Hurricane Katrina.
The Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections will be receiving $5,751,691 in grants to provide for emergency protective measures taken as a result of Hurricane Gustav.
