NEW SARPY, LA (WVUE) - A New Sarpy man was arrested early Thursday morning in connection with the Wednesday night shooting of a Destrehan High School senior, according to the St. Charles Parish Sheriff's Department.
Javon D. Wells 22, of the 700 block of East Hoover Street in New Sarpy, was arrested and charged with second degree murder in the fatal shooting of Kendall Williams, Jr.
Sheriff's deputies say that Wednesday night at approximately 8:30 p.m. they responded to a call of a shooting at East Harding & Eighth Street in New Sarpy.
When officers arrived, the found Williams suffering from a single gunshot wound to the head. He was pronounced deceased on the scene.
Within hours a warrant was obtained for the arrest of Wells.
Wells is being held at the Nelson Coleman Correctional Center.
St. Charles Parish schools issued a statement on the shooting:
"We are deeply saddened to learn of the death of a Destrehan High School senior who was shot and killed last night. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, the students and staff at Destrehan High School and our community.
"Support is being provided for students and staff in accordance with the district's crisis management and emergency response plan.
"In addition to school counselors who are on site daily, additional support staff members are at the high school to assist students and staff."
