NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) -

A gun battle erupted at a supermarket between an accused shoplifter and the store's owner, according to New Orleans police.

It happened in the 1900 block of North Broad St. around 1 p.m.

The perpetrator was asked to leave the store on several occasions, according to an initial police report. He returned to the store Thursday afternoon armed with a gun, police said.

The store's owner grabbed his own weapon and the two men started shooting at each other inside the store. The suspect then fled the store and was last scene running south on St. Bernard Avenue.

Police said no one was injured.
