'Hammer' identified as suspect in NO East shooting

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) -

Police believe they've identified the man that shot a man on a bicycle in New Orleans East.

According to NOPD, Will Everfield is wanted in connection with a May 3 shooting in the 6100 block of South Laverne Street. Everfield, 18, allegedly opened fire on a man riding a bicycle, shooting him twice with a silver and black semi-automatic pistol. Police say he fled the scene on foot and was last seen running towards the Magnolia Gardens Apartments in the 6100 block of Downman Road.

The victim received gunshot wounds to the thigh and shoulder according to NOPD. He is expected to recover.

Police say Everfield is known to frequent the Digby Playground and the Magnolia Garden Apartment Complex. He goes by the nickname "Hammer" and is considered armed and dangerous.

NOPD originally reported that two men were seen shooting at the victim. Both were described as black males in their late teens with short dreadlocks. One was wearing a black and gray jacket, the other was seen wearing a red and white polo-style shirt.
