Man shot earlier this week in Metairie dies

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -

A man who was shot in Metairie on Tuesday has died in the hospital, according to Jefferson parish Sheriff's Office spokesman Col. John Fortunato.

Dwayne Batiste, 25, was shot at about 5 p.m. in the 200 block of West Esplanade Avenue. He was was taken to University Hospital, where he underwent surgery and remained in critical condition. On Friday, JPSO Homicide Detective Tommy Gai was notified that Baptiste had died as a result of his injuries.

The suspect in the investigation, identified as 24-year-old Bobby James, of Algiers, was arrested earlier this week and booked with one count each of attempted first-degree murder and aggravated burglary. Homicide investigators will now re-book James with one count of first-degree murder.
