MARRERO, LA (WVUE) - A Jefferson Parish Sheriff's deputy responding to an emergency call got into an accident with an ATV as it tried to make a turn in front of her, according to the Sheriff's Office.

The ATV driver, 27-year-old Matthew Stinson, was hospitalized in critical condition.

Third District Patrol Deputy Tawayna Thornton was en route to a stabbing on Mather Drive in Marrero traveling north on Ames Boulevard with her overhead lights and siren activated. When she reached the 3500 block, a 2016 Yamaha Raptor 700 ATV driven by Stinson was also traveling north on Ames. The Sheriff''s Office said Stinson was driving on the sidewalk just ahead of Thornton's unit. As Stinson accelerated, he tried to make a turn on Ames when his ATV made contact with the front passenger side of Thornton's unit.

Thornton was taken to West Jefferson Medical Center, where she was treated for minor injuries and released.
