ST. CHARLES PARISH, LA (WVUE) - A suspected drunk driver crashed through a construction site, injuring four workers Saturday morning.
According to Louisiana State Police, 23-year-old Earl William Maugham Jr., was driving north in a construction zone on US 61 when he side swiped an unoccupied Ford Truck stopped in the right lane. State Police say the truck was equipped with white and amber flashing strobe lights to mark the construction site.
Maugham Jr. kept going, hitting a back hoe that was currently in use before going over two raised medians and striking four construction workers. All four workers were transported to University Medical Center with moderate-to-severe injuries.
Police suspect that Maugham was impaired at the time of the crash, though toxicology tests are pending and he has not been charged with DWI.
Maugham was arrested and booked into the St. Charles Parish lock up on four counts of First Degree Vehicular negligent Injuring and Careless Operation. Additional charges may be added.
