Southeastern baseball rallies to top Lamar

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - For the second straight day, game, Southeastern used a 5th inning explosion to defeat Lamar. Saturday's 5-2 win gave the Lions the series win with one game still to play.

Southeastern Louisiana scored three, two-out runs in the fifth inning, holding off repeated attempts by Lamar to rally for the win in Southland Conference action at Vincent-Beck Stadium.

The Southeastern (34-13, 20-3 Southland) rally almost stalled out before it started against Lamar (31-14, 16-7 Southland).

In all, the Lions strung together five straight, two-out hits off Cardinal starter Billy Love, taking a 3-1 lead.

Southeastern starting pitcher Mac Sceroler (9-2) worked around nine hits in six innings to earn the win. The sophomore right-hander from Denham Springs, allowed two runs, both earned, while fanning five without walking a batter.

Conference-leading Southeastern, which clinched a return trip to the Southland tournament with Friday's series-opening win, maintains at least a one-game lead over Sam Houston State and is now four games up on Lamar.

The two teams will play the series finale Sunday at 1 p.m.
