THIBODAUX, LA (WVUE) - Thibodaux Police responded to a home on Hickory Street on April 30 around 7:45 p.m. Saturday after getting a call about a disturbance.
Family members said James Haydel, 30, began causing a disturbance after they complained they couldn't hear the movie they were watching because Haydel was using his tattoo needle. When police arrived, Haydel ran from officers and was eventually caught in the 600 block of Olive Street. Haydel had an active warrant for his arrest.
Detectives say they learned earlier that day that Haydel had accused his girlfriend of being on drugs. Police say she reported that Haydel hit her multiple times. She also told police that days earlier, on April 18, Haydel had accused her of being on drugs and physically assaulted her. Police say the victim reported that Haydel searched her genitals for drug paraphernalia.
Police took Haydel to the hospital because he claimed he swallowed methamphetamine while running from them. He was released from the hospital on May 5 and was taken into custody by the Thibodaux Police Department. He was booked on charges of domestic abuse battery with child endangerment, second-degree sexual battery, resisting an officer, and a contempt of court warrant out of the 17th JDC for non-support with an automatic 90-day sentence or a $4,690 fine.
He was booked into the Lafourche Parish Detention Center on a $28,500 bond.
