ST. TAMMANY PARISH, LA (WVUE) - A non-profit organization donated bullet- and stab-protective vests to five St. Tammany Parish K9s: Nero, Sarge, Cado, Thor, and Cenzo.
The program is open to dogs who are certified and at least 20 months old.
The organization that supplied the vests is Vested Interest in K9s, a non-profit based in East Taunton, MA. Since it was founded in 2009, it has provided more than 1,800 protective vests to dogs in 49 states at a cost of over $1.6 million. All the vests are custom-made by Armor Express in Central Lake, MI.
"K9s Nero, Sarge, Cado, Thor, and Cenzo and all of our K9 deputies are valuable assets our agency, and we are incredibly thankful to Vested Interest in K9s for these wonderful donations to our agency, which will help keep our K9s safe while they are doing their job to keep the citizens of St. Tammany Parish safe," Sheriff Jack Strain said.
