NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - Dylan Axelrod had seven strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings, and the Zephyrs rode a fourth-inning run to a 1-0 shutout of the Colorado Springs Sky Sox on Tuesday night at Zephyr Field.
Axelrod (1-1) fanned four in a row and six out of eight batters at one point, and limited Colorado Springs to four hits, two of which were infield singles.
Xavier Scruggs lifted a liner over the head of right fielder Andy Wilkins for a double to score Robert Andino, the only blemish against Sky Sox starter Hiram Burgos (1-3), who also struck out seven while allowing five hits and two walks.
Of the Zephyrs' last 14 games, nine of them have been decided by one run. The Z's have gone 6-3 in those contests.
The series continues with a Wednesday matinee beginning at 11 a.m.
