NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - A broken water main in Central City is causing street flooding for some residents on Magnolia Street.
The New Orleans Sewerage and Water Board says the water main broke Wednesday afternoon closing off Magnolia street between Washington Avenue and 6th Street.
S&WB officials say the water main was actually scheduled for repair next week but broke Wednesday while crews were working on valve closures, and because they were already on scene, crews were able to re-direct water to the residences so that no one saw an interruption in their service.
The water is safe to use as normal.
But still, people who live in the area are being forced to avoid parts of Magnolia Street.
The repairs are being expedited, but there was no time frame given on how long that could take.
