PLAQUEMINES PARISH, LA (WVUE) -

Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries agents cited a Slidell man for allegedly stealing crab traps from Plaquemines Parish on May 11.

Agents say Broward Barwick, 26, removed the contents of crab traps that he didn’t own, failed to mark crab traps, and stole crab traps.

Agents reportedly set up surveillance on a line of crab traps near Pointe Fienne in Plaquemines Parish. They say Barwick went down the line of crab traps and emptied the contents into his vessel. Agents inspected the line and found that several were untagged or tagged by different commercial fishermen.

The penalty for removing contents of crab traps, using crab traps without required markings and theft of crab traps carries up to a $950 fine and 120 days in jail for each offense. Agents seized multiple crab traps that will be returned to their owners. They also dumped five boxes of crabs back into the water.
