JEFFERSON PARISH, LA (WVUE) -

East Jefferson General Hospital (EJGH) announced it is teaming up with Excel Med Alliance to open two freestanding emergency departments, one in 2017 and the other in 2018.

EJGH says patients will be seen by emergency physicians minutes after they enter the door.

"These will be fully functional emergency departments, staffed 24/7 by an experienced, highly qualified staff, led by board-certified emergency medicine physicians," said Dr. Mark Peters, President and CEO of EJGH. "Focusing on creating new care access points for the community is part of East Jefferson's efforts to bring quality care closer to our patients."

The first emergency department is scheduled to open in Metairie in mid-2017 at the corner of Veterans Memorial Boulevard and Clearview Parkway.

The second location will open in Kenner in 2018.
